‘My Story’ Paws&Hounds & Jenny Dunlop Art

This week, we have chosen a stitching theme!  Sean from Paws&Hounds creates beautifully handmade dog collars and accessories and Jenny of Jenny Dunlop Art mixes stitching & fabrics with her watercolour paintings. Follow their stories through a series of pictures.

Paws & Hounds

Where it began

Our own dogs were the reason we created Paws&Hounds, Athena our poodle was is show coat and needed a wide padded collar which we couldn’t find readily in the UK. I began by hand stitching her two collars, which was a long winded process. We moved home and purchased a vintage singer sewing machine as a piece of furniture for our living-room and this is where I made my first real collars.

Where I work
I work from our two spare bedrooms, one workspace is for sewing and posting and the other workspace is where I do all the metal work.

Work In Progress

Other than orders which are an ongoing work in progress, we are looking to improve our social media posts. This is Williams area of expertise and so he is charged with creating me pictures that will enhance our presence on Instagram and Facebook.

Our Best Seller
ID tags are a real hit, particularly online with many orders coming from across the pond in the USA.

Collars that have a country/tweed feel to them are really popular and as summer has come, boho style collars are becoming a firm favourite.

My Stall & Favourite Markets
We can be found at a number of the Makers Markets, our favourites being the Northern Quarter and Knutsford.

Jenny Dunlop Art

Where it began.

My degree is in Fashion and Textile Design, when I finished Uni I got a job with a big furniture company. I loved it and worked with them for many years. But, moving house and starting a family made me change my outlook and I wanted something I could do to fit around my kids. I wanted to be able to do the school run and play! That’s when I decided to pick up my brushes and dig out my sewing machine again, I love being able to plan my schedule according to  what’s going on as a family. I may work into the night sometimes but that’s fine!!

Monster families and rows of quirky houses featured in my early work, and still do!

Where I work

I work from my studio at home, I have a big space filled with clutter!!

Work in Progress

I’m currently working on a couple of House Commissions.

Favourite piece to make & best seller

I love animals and I love drawing animals. My favourite place to visit is the Zoo. My Lion artwork is currently my best seller, followed closely by my giraffe.

Fav markets
One of my favourite markets lately has been the Markers Market in Chester. Such a lovely atmosphere and a real buzz to it!!

Plans/whats next?
I have plans to create homewares later this year, cushions and tea towels will be the first items. the samples have arrived and look fabulous. Not sure I have the patience for the 4-5 week delivery time for the rest of the order!!!

In the meantime you can find me at The White Horse, Chester Racecourse this weekend as part of the wonderful PARENTFOLK event. Saturday and Sunday 12 – 7pm xx
