Old Man & Magpie

reclaimed wood furniture and small batch hand poured soy wax candles

Old Man & Magpie make reclaimed wood furniture and small batch hand poured soy wax candles in a tiny work shop in the north west of England.

The idea for Old Man & Magpie was born at the same time as their first child.
Following a reshuffle in family life, Garry decided to quit his job and concentrate his time & energy on raising their daughter.

Old Man & Magpie, MyArtisanMarkets 5After 6 months they knew that they needed to come up with a way of making a little extra money to pay for the simple things – as well as something to keep his hands & mind busy during the (few) hours that he had to himself.

Old Man & Magpie, MyArtisanMarkets 6Garry decided to utilise the basic skills he learnt as a joiner in his teenage years as well as the small workshop space that was attached to their home. He went about creating some simple pieces of wooden furniture using some timbers that he salvaged from a local demolition site.

Old Man & Magpie, MyArtisanMarkets 7The brand developed further with the creation of candles as they thought it would be a good addition to their range of products and a way to keep their online shop active OM&M, MyArtisanMarketswhilst Garry worked on orders. Jemma researched, made, tested, developed, made and retested a number of scents, waxes and jars over a couple months and they now have a beautiful product they are really happy with.
