“I seek to capture the quiet magical beauty in everyday objects”
Joanna has been an artist and printmaker for over thirty years and has exhibited her prints and paintings both in the UK and abroad. Many of her original designs have sold in the UK and around the world to brands such as Anna French, Papyrus USA, Boots, W H Smith, Liberty of London and the National Trust amongst many others.
“My background is in in textile design so pattern, texture and colour are what excites me. Recurring themes include birds, trees, gardens and flowers; I seek to capture the quiet magical beauty in everyday objects.”
Joanna uses both mixed media and intaglio prints to create her designs. Printmaking allows her to explore variations on a theme. She experiments with colourways, or adds subtle hand coloured elements to enhance artworks, creating a unique image. She enjoys the process of layering different media, often combining watercolour with gouache, soft pastels, coloured pencils and inks on the same piece. Recurring themes include birds, trees, English gardens and flowers; Joanna seeks to capture the quiet magical beauty in everyday objects.
Selected artworks and designs are digitally printed onto velvets, silks and linens to create unique textiles for both fashion and the home, including various cushions and scarves. Everything is printed and sewn in the UK, within ten miles of where she lives in the Peak District.
“At Makers Markets I aim to sell a wide range of products ranging in price from £2.50 for a greeting card, and small giclee prints from £19, to maybe £275 or more for limited edition intaglio prints and original paintings, as well as a range of hand-made cushions and luxury silk scarves.”
If you wish to meet Joanna at a market, please email in advance to ensure she will be there and avoid disappointment.
