Handmade Hayfield is ‘the’ place to be in the Peak District

The first ‘pop-up shop’ in Hayfield was held in March 2013 at 1 Church Street by two local bakers. After planning the event for what was hoped to be a typical Spring morning, the town woke up to find the village cut off by snow and ice! However, this turn of bad weather worked to their advantage as everyone shopped locally that day and they sold out of baked goods very quickly.

Later that Spring, the group grew from two to five members taking on the name ‘Handmade Hayfield’. We invited other local crafters to take part in the shops, helping provide an outlet for local wares and produce, as well as inspiring residents of the village to shop locally and hence boost the village’s small economy as well as provide a place for people to feel part of their local community.

Handmade Hayfield now runs twice a year from a desire to grow the events but make them bigger and better, combining with other artistic ventures within the village and drawing artists and craftspeople from outside the area. We want Handmade Hayfield to be ‘the’ place in the Peak District where people come to buy their baking, special gifts or their own little treats and to make contact and build relationships with local crafters, not only making shopping easier and closer-to-home but also as a means of finding unique, specially-made products which support local traders.

The event now has between 40-50 stalls and has wheelchair/pushchair access.
